Why the Neretva is Special

The Neretva is Bosnia's emerald. Its turquoise color comes from limestone filtering and glacial origins — water so clear you can see the riverbed ten meters down, so clean that locals still drink directly from its springs. The upper canyon you'll raft through is one of Europe's deepest. Walls of grey limestone rise 300 meters on either side, carved over millennia by water that stays 8-12°C even in August. This is the Gornja Neretva — home to endemic species found nowhere else on Earth, an ecosystem that nearly disappeared. Your 23-kilometer journey starts where the Glavatičevo valley opens into the canyon. The first section eases you in: calm water, towering walls, time to find your paddle rhythm. Then comes the Rakitnica confluence — where a crystal-clear tributary meets the Neretva at a sandy beach perfect for swimming. After lunch, the river picks up. Grade III rapids, cliff jumping for the bold, and the dramatic Grand Canyon section leading to Džajića Buk waterfall. This isn't just rafting. It's traveling through a landscape that almost ceased to exist.

Daily buses run from both cities to Konjic bus station. Let us know when you book and we'll arrange pickup. Want to stay overnight? Konjic has guesthouses and small hotels. We're happy to recommend options when you book — some guests prefer to arrive the evening before and explore the old town.

Why Raft With Eco Vision in Konjic

In 1996, plans emerged to dam the Neretva. Four hydroelectric projects would have flooded this entire canyon — every rapid, every beach, every cliff you'll see today. Citizens of Konjic fought back, and rafting began not as tourism but as proof: this river has value alive. D. Nikšić was there from the start. For five years he worked as a skipper, guiding early trips through waters under threat. In 2003, he founded Eco Vision — the 9th officially registered rafting operator in Konjic. The fight worked. HE Konjic was removed from all plans. The canyon was saved. Today, most of those early operators are gone. Eco Vision remains — now operating as Raft Bosnia, but with the same team, same values, same commitment to the river we helped protect. When you book with us, you're choosing 22 years of experience and one of the last original operators still running.
